Buzz has been bringing electricity to Georgia Tech since 1979, when a student burst onto the field during a pep rally wearing a costume borrowed from Six Flags. Fans loved him instantly, and what started as a one-time stunt quickly grew into one of the most recognizable mascot traditions in college sports. Since then, Buzz has become a central figure in the Georgia Tech community, pumping up crowds, spreading positivity, and carrying Yellow Jacket pride far beyond campus.
What makes Buzz stand out is the way he turns school spirit into a full-on performance. Known for his crowd surfing, signature “Buzz Flip,” and hilarious skits, he brings nonstop movement, energy, and fun wherever he goes. - Dozens of students have “worn the wings” and kept their identity secret until graduation, when Buzz carries the graduate across the commencement stage.
