On May 6, 2014 GSU unveiled its official mascot – the Jaguar. Jaguars are known for their intelligence, speed, agility and ability – characteristics displayed by GSU student-athletes in competition and in the classroom. The name was chosen by popular vote from among 30,000 votes casted by students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members. The search process drew 400 submissions, including 200 of which were unique. Paula Franklin was chosen winner of the Name the Mascot contest, as her Jaguars submission beat out finalist entries Gladiators, Prairie Wolves and Bengals.
