Profile

S.J. Sharkie has been the Sharks’ ambassador since the franchise’s very first season in 1991, earning the nickname “Hardest Working Fish in Sports” for logging roughly 450 appearances per year. His 2025 Hall of Fame induction made him only the third NHL mascot ever to enter the Hall (after Tommy Hawk and Youppi!), recognizing three decades of relentless effort on and off the ice.

Fun Facts

  • Sharkie has represented the Sharks at more than 20 NHL All-Star Games — an appearance streak that reflects his standing as one of the league’s premier mascot ambassadors.
  • He won the national ‘Most Awesome Mascot’ award on Cartoon Network, giving him a pop culture credential that most sports mascots never achieve.
  • Sharkie’s ‘Reading Is Cool’ literacy program has been a cornerstone of his community work, reaching thousands of Bay Area schoolchildren each year and making him as much an education advocate as a sports entertainer.
