Team: Somerset Patriots
Making his debut in July of 1998, Sparkee has since gone on to become one of the most popular characters in the Central New Jersey area. Sparkee received his name in a contest run to help the team name the mascot before the Somerset Patriots even played a game. He is named after New York Yankees legend and then Somerset Patriots manager Sparky Lyle. His named was spelled S-p-a-r-k-e-e to give him his own identity, though he does have Sparky’s handlebar mustache worked into his look.
Sparkee is the top dog around town, a 6’0″ schnauzer that knows how to dance, entertain, and though he cannot speak, can get the crowd going like no other. His number is 98 in honor of the year he was introduced and the Somerset Patriots’ first season of play.
