Team: California State University, Dominguez Hills
In May of 1969, California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) designated the bull as the mascot. However, the history around when the campus actually introduced a mascot character and when it was named is still up for debate. However, in 2017, the campus introduced a redesigned Teddy Toro (they/them) character and Teddy has become more than a mascot. Teddy Toro is not only the pinnacle of school pride, but they have leveraged social media and in person engagement to discuss social justice issues, mental health, body positivity, gender, and other issues that students encounter. For the first time in school history, Teddy competed and placed second in the 2019 UCA/UDA open division national mascot competition and then returned in 2020 and placed forth.
