Albert
University of Florida (NCAA)

Albert - University of Florida (NCAA)

The commander in chief when it comes to all things spirit at UF, Albert is the big man on campus. His favorite pastime is spending Saturdays in The Swamp with 90,000 of his closest friends.

When he isn't cheering on the Gators to victory, Albert enjoys sunbathing by Lake Alice, watching Florida championship reruns, and pumping iron at the indoor practice facility.

Albert's particular set of skills, which he has acquired over a very long career, include performing 2-Bits before home football games and giving the best high-fives known to gator or mankind. His game day ritual entails putting on his lucky Gator hat, practicing his celebratory dance moves with Alberta, and chugging a Cool Blue Gatorade.

Above all else, Albert hopes to inspire all Gators fans young and old to connect the members of the Gator Nation over the ideals of academic integrity and good sportsmanship that make the University of Florida great. (From Albert's own page)

Bernie Brewer
Milwaukee Brewers (MLB)

Bernie Brewer -Milwaukee Brewers (MLB)

The concept of a team mascot first emerged back in 1970 when the expansion team needed to draw more fans to the ballpark. That year, the original "Bernie Brewer," 69-year-old Milt Mason, camped out in a trailer atop the scoreboard in late June, vowing not to come down until a crowd of at least 40,000 attended a game. A bat day crowd of 44,387 showed up to bring their adopted hero down from his perch on August 16.

The demand for Bernie Brewer grew, and by 1973, he emerged as a character who cheered on the home team from a beer-barreled chalet. He would slide down from his perch into a beer stein following each Brewers home run and victory. Bernie Brewer became a fixture at home games through the organization's powerful years, when homers came with regularity for teams known as "Bambi's Bombers" and "Harvey's Wallbangers."

In 1984, the Brewers rebuilt the bleachers, replacing Bernie's Chalet with a sound tower, sending the mascot into temporary retirement. But, by popular demand in 1993, Bernie returned and has been a fixture at every home game since.

In April 2010, Bernie joined Twitter. He has the largest following of any Major League Baseball mascot on the social network. Fans can follow him on Twitter at @Bernie_Brewer. (From the Brewer's Website)

Big Al
University of Alabama (NCAA)

Big Al - University of Alabama (NCAA)

The story of how Alabama became associated with the "elephant" goes back to the 1930 season when Coach Wallace Wade had assembled a great football team.

On October 8, 1930, sports writer Everett Strupper of the Atlanta Journal wrote a story of the Alabama-Mississippi game he had witnessed in Tuscaloosa four days earlier. Strupper wrote, "That Alabama team of 1930 is a typical Wade machine, powerful, big, tough, fast, aggressive, well-schooled in fundamentals, and the best blocking team for this early in the season that I have ever seen. When those big brutes hit you I mean you go down and stay down, often for an additional two minutes.

"Coach Wade started his second team that was plenty big and they went right to their knitting scoring a touchdown in the first quarter against one of the best fighting small lines that I have seen. For Ole Miss was truly battling the big boys for every inch of ground.

"At the end of the quarter, the earth started to tremble, there was a distant rumble that continued to grow. Some excited fan in the stands bellowed, 'Hold your horses, the elephants are coming,' and out stamped this Alabama varsity.

"It was the first time that I had seen it and the size of the entire eleven nearly knocked me cold, men that I had seen play last year looking like they had nearly doubled in size."

Strupper and other writers continued to refer to the Alabama linemen as "Red Elephants," the color referring to the crimson jerseys.

The 1930 team posted an overall 10-0 record. It shut out eight opponents and allowed only 13 points all season while scoring 217. The "Red Elephants" rolled over Washington State 24-0 in the Rose Bowl and were declared National Champions.

Fredbird has been entertaining Cardinals Nation since April of 1979! From the day he was hatched, Fredbird loved going to games with mom and pop bird. The noise of the crowd, the action on the field, and, of course, all the ballpark treats kept him flying back for more.

One day, Fredbird got up on the dugout and started dancing between innings when the organ played. The fans nearby cheered him on and he knew then he was made for the stage. As Fredbird got older, he did more and more at Busch Stadium. He played pranks on the umpires, shot t-shirts into the crowd, and played games with the kids. The Cardinals noticed how much the fans loved Fred and decided to give him a life-long contract as the official team mascot.

Now Fredbird is at every Cardinals home game greeting fans, leading parades, cheering with Team Fredbird, taking selfies, and shooting shirts. You can find him in the Family Pavilion during from first pitch to the start of the 3rd inning.

Homer the Dragon - Charlotte Knights (MiLB)

Homer The Dragon has entertained fans of all ages for over 35 years as the mascot for the Charlotte Knights, Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. The Charlotte Knights play at Truist Field, in Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina.

Debuting in 1989 in Fort Mill South Carolina, Homer has never missed a Charlotte Knights home game and always makes sure to enhance the fan experience with personable interactions, live skits, and his funny and witty antics on the field. Homer is often seen at Knights games dancing on the dugout, messing with opposing players, and sabotaging his nemesis, Jerry the Jester, during the Royalty Race.

As Charlotte’s longest running sports mascot, Homer has also attended thousands of community and private events in the Charlotte area over the years. Homer is a beloved and well-known figure in Mecklenburg and York counties, and beyond, as he is often recognized for his consistent presence in the local community over the past three decades.

From parades, fundraisers, school visits, hospital visits, birthday parties, weddings, and more, this Dragon sure brings the heat!

The Charlotte Knights have been recognized throughout the MiLB as one of the most influential and innovative teams in the league. This would include their mascot Homer The Dragon. Homer’s biggest accomplishment is his legacy as the longest running, and perhaps the most beloved, sports mascot in the Charlotte area.

In 2024, Homer celebrated his 35th birthday, a milestone that even some of the most well-known mascots are yet to hit. Homer is often told by parents that they have a picture with him from when they were a kid. This is the type of local love and support that builds over many years of consistency and care that sustains Homer’s relevancy and longevity in the community. Homer may not have many “viral moments,” but he has had hundreds of thousands of “little moments” that have the power to make a child fall in love with baseball, or make a hospital patient smile for the first time that day, or brighten someone’s week with a delivery on Valentine’s Day.

Homer The Dragon is the perfect example of a minor league mascot who has earned the love of his local community, as he has been with them through thick and thin!

Hornsby
Tulsa Drillers (MiLB)

Hornsby - Tulsa Drillers (MiLB)

Hornsby, the biggest blue bull around, has been entertaining fans for nearly 30 years in Tulsa, Oklahoma, while cheering on the Tulsa Drillers. Born at Drillers Stadium in 1996, he has led the fans to cheer every victory and comforted them after every lost. The Drillers moved to ONEOK Field in 2010 and Hornsby was involved every step of the way in helping bring life back into Downtown Tulsa. It is estimated that in the beginning of the 2026 season, Hornsby will be greeting his tenth million fan to a Drillers game.

Ten Million fans is a lot of baseball fans but it doesn’t reflect the countless of other engagements Hornsby has had in the community. From small birthday parties to parades, children’s hospital visits to State Fairs, it is impossible to calculate the number of hugs, high fives or smiles Hornsby has created.

In 2016, Hornsby, the Tulsa Drillers and the Tulsa Health Department School Health Programs partnered up to create the Bully Busters Club. Its mission was to advocate for kindness and to prevent bullying in elementary schools in the Tulsa County and surrounding areas. Since the start of the club, Hornsby has recruited over 50,000 kids, in grades K-2nd, to be advocates for kindness.

The success of the Bully Buster Club sparked a new assembly program known as the Sugar Strike Out, starting in the 2024-2025 school year in partnership with TSET: Shape Your Future. In it’s first year, Hornsby was able to educate over 5,000 students, 3rd-5th, about the importance of choosing water.

In 2021, Hornsby celebrated his 25th Season. He has made such an impact on the Tulsa community that he was awarded multiple recognitions including the Key to Tulsa and five other surrounding suburbs, four honorary degrees in the Art of Fan Entertainment from local universities, and had an American flag flown at the U.S. Capitol building in his honor. Hornsby also stepped inside a wrestling ring with a local independent wrestling organization, Wrestling for a Cause (WFC), to help raise funds for families battling childhood cancer. Hornsby went 3-1 and is still the current DrillVille Champion, a championship made in honor of Hornsby.

For Tulsa, no one loves Tulsa more than the big blue bull himself. However, Hornsby is starting to be nationally recognized as well. In 2023, Hornsby was recognized by the Mascot Hall of Fame as the Minor Leagues’ Greatest Community Impact with the Bully Busters Club. In 2024, Hornsby’s Running with the Bulls (in-game promotion) was featured during the 2024 MLB Futures All-Star Game and as GameOps’s Best Contest or On-Field Promotion. Hornsby has been able to create collaborations with national touring acts such as the Harlem Globetrotters, Professional Bull Riders, Hot Wheels Monster Trucks and All Elite Wrestling.

Hornsby’s mascot program has also shown great success as six of the last seven members of the Bull Wranglers (mascot business department) have advanced their careers into the major league/international (MLB, NBA, NHL, MLS) level of employment. Hornsby has made appearances in over 8 states, and is also able to interact with fans with his Instagram & X accounts (@HeyHornsby).

It truly is an honor to be on this year’s Mascot Hall of Fame ballot with such incredible talent. On behalf of Hornsby, the Tulsa Drillers and on behalf of every bull out there, we ask of you to vote for Hornsby. We appreciate you taking the time to consider Hornsby for this lifelong achievement.

Sebastian the Ibis
University of Miami (NCAA)

Sebastian the Ibis - University of Miami (NCAA)

The first thing a student sees when applying to the University of Miami is a question about the Ibis. The last bird to leave before a storm comes and the first to return, the ibis stands as a symbol of strength and resilience through difficult times.
Sebastian the Ibis is the perfect embodiment of that strength and an integral part of the student experience at the U. Sebastian is the strongest, coolest, smoothest guy on campus, who rides the storm of Hurricane athletics with nothing but swag and enthusiasm.
You can find Sebastian:

  • At the center of the field, leading the crowd in a C-A-N-E-S spell out
  • On the sidelines, hyping up Hurricane fans with his infectious energy
  • On campus for homecoming and other student-led events
  • In the Coral Gables community, at schools, parks, and charity events
  • Anywhere and everywhere, there are Hurricanes fans

Sebastian is the “baddest” bird in town. He commands attention on and off the field and provides memorable experiences to fans, young and old. The most iconic Sebastian moment, however, is the always energizing C-A-N-E-S spell out, which happens every time our football team scores.

Sebastian the Ibis has proudly stood at the heart of the University of Miami’s most historic athletic and cultural moments. As a symbol of unwavering spirit and pride, he was present for all five of our Football National Championships, bringing energy and unity to every title run. In 2023, Sebastian cheered alongside fans as Miami reached new heights in basketball, celebrating our first-ever Men’s Final Four and the Women’s Elite Eight—a record-breaking achievement for the program.

Beyond athletics, Sebastian continues to be part of the U’s most iconic moments. He was the center of our first ever 2025 Bahamas community engagement trip. His legendary 1991 pregame appearance at FSU in Tallahassee, FL remains one of college football’s most memorable mascot moments.

Sebastian’s influence extends far beyond the sidelines—his charismatic presence has helped grow a vibrant online community, with 52,000 social media followers, marking a 160% increase in just one year. Whether on the field, in the community, or online, Sebastian the Ibis continues to soar as an irreplaceable icon of the University of Miami.

Sparty

As the heart of Michigan State University, Sparty is always there — rallying teams, lifting spirits and bringing smiles. Whether it’s a warm hug or a high-five, he never misses a chance to welcome MSU students, alums and fans with Spartan pride.

Early in 1989, a group came together to design and revamp the Sparty mascot. Research was conducted on Michigan State’s mission, community and traditions. The result was an “approachable, fierce yet kind, man for all seasons” mascot. Sparty would reflect the university’s strength and character. To introduce MSU's new mascot, six billboards were positioned around East Lansing announcing his Spartan Stadium debut on September 16, 1989. Since the current mascot was introduced in 1989, the MSU Alumni Office has had the honor of overseeing the Sparty Mascot Program. (From Sparty's page)

Stuff the Magic Dragon
Orlando Magic (NBA)

Stuff the Magic Dragon - Orlando Magic (NBA)

Stuff the Magic Dragon, described as "the tallest dragon in Orlando's history," was introduced in a giant egg on Church Street in 1989.

He was "originally the Magic's #1 pick in the supplemental dragon back draft, directly out of clown college." Stuff is said to live in the Dragon's Lair at Orlando's Kia Center and has his own play area, "Stuff's Magic Castle" on the promenade level.

Stuff comes out on the court pre-game to do a skit and toss out T-shirts; during the game, he often ventures around in the stand and does more skits during breaks and between quarters. Most skits can be from a trampoline dunk show (by himself or with the Orlando Magic Flight Crew), a pump-up session with giant signs, break-dancing in the middle of the court, or dancing to a song compilation. A special song made for the mascot plays during his entrances.

Stuff also makes grand entrances during special events like the playoffs or opening night where he comes down from the rafters on a zip line or bungee. He also has two air-mascot counterparts, Air Stuff and Air Stuff Jr., and has a miniature mascot of him named Mini-Stuff.

He gained nationwide popularity when he was featured on "The Tonight Show", hosted by Jimmy Fallon, during a dance off with their mascot, Hashtag the panda, during a week-long special in Orlando. He also made headlines when he proposed to Kate Upton. (From Wikipedia)

The Leprechaun
University of Notre Dame (NCAA)

The Leprechaun - University of Notre Dame (NCAA)

The Leprechaun is one of the oldest and most well-known figures in the history of college sports and remains one of the few human mascots in the current athletics landscape. Since the character’s introduction in 1960, the Leprechaun has led the Fighting Irish from the sidelines as the official mascot of the University of Notre Dame.

Portrayed by four students each season, the Leprechaun is unique in that it celebrates the differences of the students who portray it rather than trying to, quite literally, mask them. These students are not only called to be representatives of the University at all times, but put in a great deal of work to represent Notre Dame in athletic competitions, media appearances, service events, campus initiatives and more.

A character for its people, the Leprechaun is living, walking proof that being Irish at Notre Dame is more than a heritage - it's a bond that brings its students, athletes, fans and friends together in the face of whatever opponent we might encounter.

  • Introduction of the Leprechaun, 1960

  • Leprechaun Named Official University Mascot, 1965

  • First Black Leprechaun, 1999

  • First Female Leprechaun, 2019

  • Best Live Human Mascot, Mascot Hall of Fame 2023

The Oregon Duck
University of Oregon (NCAA)

The Oregon Duck - University of Oregon (NCAA)

The Oregon Duck is the official mascot of the University of Oregon Ducks athletic program. The mascot is based on Disney's Donald Duck character, with the university having a licensing agreement with Disney. The Oregon Duck is a green and yellow costume, with a green and yellow beanie cap that says "Oregon".

The University of Oregon has a long and storied history with the mascot, dating back to when they used live ducks, including a famous duck named Puddles, as mascots. In the 1940s, a deal was reached with Walt Disney to use the likeness of Donald Duck for the mascot, and the nickname "Ducks" became more prevalent.
